Hip hop dancers hit Urban Reach

Jazz fingers, dance moves -- and plenty of passion. The Urban Reach Dance Convention is giving aspiring dancers the chance to learn from some of the music industry's most acclaimed teachers, who have worked with artists like Justin Timberlake and Rihanna.

"They're all really nice and they're inspirational and we all look up to them so much. They're just really great people," said dance student Ally Morrissey.

The convention kicked off Friday night with a master class. Dancers of all levels also got a chance to enter a dance competition for a cash prize.

"We have like 120 or 150 kids here this weekend. It's pretty evenly split up between the advanced and intermediate dance rooms, which is awesome," said dance instructor Lindsay Richardson.

The annual convention is hosted by the Urban Dance Complex. It offered nine classes in small groups, giving teachers a chance to work closely with students. "Our kind of motto is smaller space and a smaller setting with still the top notch teachers, so they have more experience with a one-on-one relationship," Richardson said.

"If you go to New York City or LA, it's not like it's this small class like it is here. You get more time with the teachers and you can pick up more things," said dance student Hope Shaw.

"The difference between dancers -- more so in LA than here -- is just experience. It doesn't mean that there's a lack of talent here, it just means that sometimes you don't get the most education in a small town, but that's even more reason why you gotta come back," said dance instructor Miguel Zarate.

"At Urban Reach it's not quick teaching, it's challenging like it should be. You're pushing yourself to as far as you can go," Shaw said.

And Sunday these dancers got a chance to go pretty far before their teachers are back on tour until next year's convention.
