RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Firefighters say a long-abandoned Vermont motel has been damaged in a fire.
The fire broke out at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Flory's Motel in Rutland. An hour later, firefighters believed they had contained the blaze to the right-hand side of the building, but the smoke soon spread across the entire structure and flames could be seen through windows.
The Rutland Herald reports an excavator began tearing down the left-hand side of the structure to keep the fire from spreading to the neighbor's house.
The building is part of a stretch of land on Business Route 4 that was abandoned decades ago.
The cause was not immediately determined. No injuries were reported.
