Rutland police cruiser involved in crash

Posted: Updated:

A Rutland City Police officer is recovering at home after a crash involving his cruiser.

Authorities say Officer Adam Lucia was one of two officers responding to an aggravated assault call Monday at Tops Market on Main Street Monday. As he crossed Main Street from West Street, his light turned red. He had his siren on, but another car crossed the intersection and they crashed.

"Both the civilian and our officer were significantly shaken by the crash event. And both, for safety reasons, were transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center, where they were more formally evaluated by the medical staff prior to being released last evening from the medical center," Rutland City Police Sgt. John Sly said.

The 24-year-old Rutland officer will have a few days off while he recovers.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
