NH residents vote on replacement for Ray Burton

LEBANON, N.H. -

It is Town Meeting Day in New Hampshire and there is a big contest in Grafton and Coos counties-- the race for Executive Council.

Voters are deciding between Democrat Michael Cryans of Hanover and Republican Joe Kenney of Wakefield. Kenney is a former state senator. Cryans is a Grafton County Commissioner. The men hope to fill the seat vacated by one of New Hampshire's most well-known politicians, Ray Burton, who died last year of cancer.

"If they called Ray, it was done. So, I think he was a very dedicated public servant, I guess. And that is what I am looking for now. I'm looking for somebody who is not into the ideology so much, but more into governing and meeting people's needs, meeting the voters' needs," said Diane Gibson of Lebanon.

Burton was the longest-serving executive councilor in New Hampshire history, first elected in 1977.
