Vermont Gas official touts savings for Rutland

Posted: Updated:

RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Gas says a pipeline extension to Rutland County would bring big savings and officials from Rutland Town call the plan to pipe natural gas to the community "promising."

The pipeline would reach Rutland County through a multi-phase project from Vermont Gas that is currently in the works. The Vermont Public Service Board approved the company's plan to extend the line to Middlebury late last year.

The Rutland Herald reports that vice president of supply and regulatory affairs at Vermont Gas, Eileen Simollardes, told officials Tuesday that the new pipeline would allow many homeowners in the area to save up to $2,000 annually on energy.

According to the Vermont Gas official, over 20 years cost savings for homes and businesses in the county could total $700 million.
