The sunny side of the snowstorm

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

This time of year, people are usually getting ready for warmer weather.

"I love winter, but it is enough winter this year," said Trish Mihal of the Party Factory.

With just one week until spring, Mihal says Plattsburgh residents start making plans for St. Patrick's Day, Mother's Day, and Easter. But Mother Nature had other plans.

"I think the groundhog lied," Mihal said.

With just a few days to St. Patrick's Day, our region got hit with a snowstorm and temperatures in the single digits. People in Plattsburgh hope that in a few days' time, they can take off their coats and throw on some green.

"I'm looking forward to some sunshine and some mud and puddles and all the things that come with spring," said Kevin Sabourin of Plattsburgh.

People around the area spent the day shoveling snow and digging out their cars. And while many have had enough of winter, there are some who are happy to see the snow.

"Kids are super excited because there's no school. Actually, I would really like spring to be here. I think it's sort of a bummer myself, but it's awesome for the kids," said Tanya Bonnebasse of Plattsburgh.

Students were able to sneak in one last day of fun in the snow, spending most of it sledding.

"I'm very excited because all the snow we've gotten, we get to go down it and play in it. And sometimes we fall, but that doesn't matter either. And I'm just very happy we're out of school," said Jacob Defayette of Plattsburgh.

While some enjoy another day of the white snow, others want to finally see the green grass under it.

The snow stopped by Thursday morning in Northern New York, but many schools and businesses remained closed while plows cleared the roads.
