VPT says federal funding is safe

Posted: Updated:

COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Public Television's board of directors says the station will retain its federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting amid an investigation into how some board meetings had been held.

The board announced Friday that CPB has decided to restore VPT's eligibility for federal Community Service Grant funding.

Vermont Public Radio reports that Audit Committee Chairman Tom Pelletier says the station will continue to cooperate fully with the CPB Office of the Inspector General investigation.

An anonymous complaint was lodged against the television station in December accusing it of violating open meetings laws, prompting the federal CPB to launch an inquiry.

An internal review found the board properly closed the meetings but violated federal requirements by failing to notify the public that private meetings had been held.
