Vt. unemployment rate falls to 4-percent

Posted: Updated:

Vermont's unemployment rate continues to fall.

The state labor department says the seasonally-adjusted statewide rate for January was an even 4-percent. That's down two-tenths of a point from December. Nationally, the unemployment rate was 6.6 percent -- down one-tenth of a point.

State labor commissioner Annie Noonan says Vermont households and businesses are reporting increased employment opportunities. But those January numbers do not take into account recent job loss news from major employers like IBM, Plasan and Kennametal.
