GOP takes jab at Shumlin's Caribbean getaway

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

The head of the Republican Party is criticizing the Governor for taking a Caribbean vacation in the middle of the legislative session.

The Governor left Friday for the country of Dominica and is scheduled to return Thursday.  GOP Party Chair Dave Sunderland points to recent job losses at companies like IBM and Plasan -- saying, "with hundreds of good jobs on the line and in the middle of a legislative session, Governor Shumlin is once again vacationing on his private sandy beach in the Caribbean. Vermonters deserve better."

In response, the Governor's press secretary released a statement saying, "The Governor's top priority from day one in office has been creating and keeping jobs in Vermont." She points to the state's unemployment rate which dropped Monday to four percent and is among the lowest in the country.
