Students observe 'high court' cases

Posted: Updated:

The Vermont Supreme Court's road trip this week turned into a teaching moment for a local school.

A group of sixth grade students from the Sharon Elementary School are studying government in their social studies class.  Teachers say that seeing how the state's highest court works -- in an intimate setting like the Vermont Law School -- is the best way for them to learn about the topic.

"We can learn about the concepts of the government and the different branches, but to see them in action and how they actually work and function in our local society is the best way for them to understand it," said Sharon teacher Janis Boulbol.

The students also recently visited the Statehouse in Montpelier and took part in a mock trial at the Supreme Court level.
