Vt. lawmaker resigns to take health care job

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

An ally of Gov. Shumlin's in his push for health reform leaves House leadership to lobby from the sideline.

Rep. Tess Taylor of Barre, the Democratic whip, resigned Friday effective immediately. She'll be the executive director of Vermont's CURE, a super PAC fighting for single-payer.

"I really feel that the past six years serving the constituents of Barre has been a real honor and I've loved every minute of it. And I still feel like I will be doing that in a way, but in a bigger way because I think single-payer is probably the most important thing that we're going to be doing in our lifetime," Taylor said.

Taylor says she doesn't see any ethical conflict of interest in accepting the position during the session.
