Posted: Updated:
BETHEL, Vt. -

Police say he was drunk and driving a school bus with kids on board.

Carl Lupton, 57, of Bethel was arrested Monday morning for driving above the legal BAC for school bus drivers --  .02.  Police say an official at a local school got suspicious that Lupton had been drinking and called the company he works for -- Butler's Bus Service.

The company provides bussing services for several area schools. An employee at Butler's called police.

"They in turn gave the subject an independent breath test. I'm not sure what device they used, but they gave him one, it yielded positive results, so then they called us.  We had an officer go down and perform the standard field sobriety exercises and subsequently processed the gentlemen for DUI," said Hartford Police Chief Brad Vail.

Police say Lupton already has a prior DUI on his record.  He is due in court April 1st.
