Fire damages Milton mobile home

MILTON, Vt. -

Milton firefighters responded to a mobile home fire on West Milton Road Monday night.

Fire crews said when they arrived the homeowner was trying to put it out himself. He told them he used two extinguishers to try to smother the flames, but it didn't work.

The homeowner wasn't willing to leave his home, but crews were able to convince him to get back to safety so they could work.

The fire chief says it appears the fire may have started under a furnace.

"Heating sources are generally mostlikely a cause of something like this and that does appear to be thecase," Milton Fire Chief Don Turner said. "It is important if youlive in a mobile home to make sure your heating, or anywhere, has to bemaintained. You get toward the end of the heating season like right now, youhave to make sure the dust and everything around it has been cleaned up aroundit."

No one was injured in that fire. And the chief says the unit can be fixed for the family to move back in.
