VTC president stepping down

The president of VermontTechnical College is stepping down and it is unclear why.

Tuesday, the schoolannounced that Philip Conroy will retire effective Nov. 15. Until then, he willbe on a paid leave of absence.

Chancellor Timothy Donovandescribed the decision as a personnel matter and would not say what was behindthe move.

During Conroy's threeyears at VTC, the school has faced serious budget issues, declining enrollmentand several staff changes.

Earlier this year, Conroywas a finalist for the presidency at SUNY Canton.

The Vermont StateCollege's director of community relations and public policy, Dan Smith, willserve as VTC's acting president until trustees name an interim president.
