Fire damages Burlington apartment building

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters battled an early morning blaze in Burlington Tuesday.

Crews were called to an apartment house on Elmwood Avenue just before 2 a.m. When they arrived, they say flames could be seen from the rear of the building.

Everyone made it out safely.

Crews say they were able to keep the fire from spreading to other apartments.

"They bang on the window, he came in and said babe the house is on fire and get what you can and get out. So, I just started panicking. I grabbed as much stuff as I could and I came out here and I saw that everything was completely engulfed in flames in the back. And I got on the phone with 911 right away," said Cassandra Wiltz, a victim of the fire.

Officials say residents of two of the four apartments were displaced by the blaze.

Damage is estimated at $125,000.

Investigators do not believe the fire is suspicious.
