Shumlin not saying much about possible opponent

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Gov. Peter Shumlin isn't saying much about a potential opponent in the fall election.

Stowe Representative Heidi Scheuermann said Wednesday she's thinking about running against Shumlin on the Republican ticket.

Thursday, Shumlin declined to comment on Scheuermann's possible candidacy, but had this to say about her suggestion that he is beatable:

"Let's find that out on Election Day. And I think if I don't do my job, I, like any candidate, am beatable," said Shumlin, D-Vermont.

Shumlin has not officially launched his re-election bid and says he does not plan to talk about the campaign until after Labor Day. But he is talking with donors, raising more than $300,000 so far this year. Overall he has more than $1 million in his campaign war chest.
