MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont stateregulators have given the OK to the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant's last 33months of operation, to end when the plant closes at the end of this year.
The Public Service Board on Fridaygranted Vermont Yankee a certificate of public good - essentially a state permit- covering its operation from March 21, 2012, when its last permit expired,through December of 2014.
Plant owner Entergy Corp. announcedlast August the Vernon reactor would shut down in late 2014 for economicreasons.
An agreement between the state and thecompany has Entergy providing $10 million to promote economic development inWindham County, which faces the loss of more than 600 jobs at Vermont Yankee.
The company also will put $25 million toward siterestoration after decommissioning.
