Burlington mayor calls for resolution to bus strike

Posted: Updated:

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - As a bus driver's strike in Vermont's largest county enters its third week, Burlington's mayor says he has great concern for the schoolchildren, families and others who are being hurt by a lack of transportation, and he's calling on both sides to resolve the dispute.

Mayor Miro Weinberger said Sunday he was in contact with the driver's union and the Chittenden County Transportation Authority and understands that both parties are having important meetings on Monday. He says he senses that both sides have worked hard to find a way to end the strike since last Wednesday's City Council meeting, which produced a resolution calling for both sides to act.

Unionized bus drivers have been on strike since March 17.
