ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has been convicted of an ax attack and faces a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The Caledonian Record reports that 41-year-old Robert A. Langmaid Sr. of Ryegate had been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon. Court documents state that Langmaid hit 20-year-old Nathanial Kinne with an ax in 2013 after Kinne and his fiancé, Jaidhe Lyon, knocked on his door after being locked out of the rooms they were renting at the house.
Police say that Langmaid told them Kinne was swinging a flashlight, so he used the ax in self-defense.
Langmaid's sentencing hearing has not been set yet. Judge Robert Bent ordered him released on $5,000 unsecured appearance bond. Langmaid's attorney did not immediately respond for comment.
