In the entire state of Vermont, there are only 34 high schools with football programs. Therefore, anytime you add to that number it's kind of a big deal.
Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation, Missisquoi Valley Union high school is well on its way to becoming the 35th member to compete in the sport.
The donation, presented by president Mickey Heinecken at the Double Tree hotel in South Burlington is the largest ever given by the committee. They hope it will be the final push to putting the Thunderbirds on the field. If all goes well, MVU will have a junior varsity team ready to open the season in early September.
