Vermont awards millions to health care providers

Posted: Updated:

Eight health care innovation grants worth $2.5 million were awarded in Rutland Wednesday.

The grants were given to health care innovators from around the state. The goal is to lower costs by supporting projects that change how health care providers and their patients work together to improve services and pave the way for health care reform.

"Our belief at White River is that independent, innovative, patient-centered primary care practices actually represent a great place to model and innovate health care. And so this grant for us is an opportunity to do some of that work that we've long wanted to do," said Dr. Sean Uiterwyk of White River Family Practice.

Additional recipients include service providers in the Northeast Kingdom helping at-risk individuals, the Burlington Community Health Center and a coalition of health care providers in the Rutland area.
