4-decade Vermont clean air leader gets EPA award

Posted: Updated:

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The longtime head of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation's Air Pollution Control Division is being recognized by the federal Environmental Protection Agency for his efforts to improve air quality in the state and New England.

The EPA says Dick Valentinetti of Moretown was honored Wednesday with a national "2014 Clean Air Excellence Award" for outstanding individual achievement.

The EPA says Valentinetti is the longest-serving state air director in the country.

Some of his accomplishments include providing the technical basis for EPA's acid rain program and in conducting long-term monitoring in Vermont that demonstrated the long-range transport of mercury emissions.
