JOHNSON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a man and woman from Johnson have been charged with writing fraudulent prescriptions for a painkiller using a stolen doctor's prescription pad and obtaining a total of 740 Oxycodone pills.

Police said Thursday that 24-year-old Lauren Wallace and 25-year-old Nathan Edwards wrote and filled prescriptions at 13 pharmacies in four counties in February and March. Authorities say they used a prescription pad stolen from a Morrisville doctor's office and wrote prescriptions for themselves and using false names.

Police say the pair charged the prescriptions to Medicaid and other people's insurance. The investigation is continuing and they could face more charges.

It was not immediately known if Wallace or Edwards was being represented by an attorney. A phone listing could not be found for either.
