Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

A drug raid turned deadly in Brattleboro Friday morning, and now a police officer is on leave.

It happened at the America's Best Inn on Putney Road at about 5:30 a.m.

Vermont state police are investigating the incident. They say Brattleboro police officers were executing a search warrant on a hotel room as part of a drug investigation, when a Brattleboro officer fired his gun and hit a man in the room. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brattleboro police called in state police to investigate the case.

Police have not yet released the name of the man who was shot or of the officer who shot him. They say the investigation is ongoing. The officer involved is now on leave, which is standard practice after a shooting.
