High-speed Internet expected in Putney this summer

Posted: Updated:

PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) - Telecommunications officials from across Vermont are telling a group of residents in the town of Putney they are trying to get them broadband service.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports officials from V-Tel said they are close to finishing work on four towers to service the entire town with high-speed service. The goal is to have service available during the summer. Officials say the new technology could present some "surprises."

Fairpoint Communication Project Manager Chris Lillie said the company has completed work on some streets and hopes to have service available to others before the end of June.

The meeting was the first of several planned to talk to people who are waiting for high-speed Internet in their homes and businesses.
