Jay Peak building project on hold

Posted: Updated:
COVENTRY, Vt. -

It's touted as a massive development that will transform the Northeast Kingdom. But part of the building project at Jay Peak is now on hold, just as construction season is set to start.

Reporter Gina Bullard went to the North Country Expo Friday where local businesses are showcasing their products. But something everyone was talking about is news out of Jay Peak that construction has been delayed at the Stateside Lodge at the resort.

Jay Peak President Bill Stenger told WCAX News construction has been delayed six months because the resort wants to amp up its marketing efforts and hasn't gotten all the permitting approvals it needs.

Stateside is a $25 million project and the second phase involves building 85 suites and cottages, that's what's been delayed. Stenger says it will still open according to schedule, but this added time allows the resort to work on marketing and making sure they can fill all those beds.

Watch the video for Gina's full interview with Bill Stenger and an update on the Northeast Kingdom Economic Development Initiative and EB-5.
