PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

In what authorities are still calling a mystery, the body of 20-year-old student Kodi Beckles was found in this wooded area behind Knights Automotive on Route 3 in Plattsburgh. Police say the circumstances surrounding the death of Beckles are still very much unclear and that this is still an active investigation but one thing is for sure that this is a devastating loss to all who knew him.

Beckles was known as a caring and hardworking young man. That's why friends and family say they were shocked and saddened by the news that a body matching Beckles' description was found behind Knights Automotive on Route 3 in Plattsburgh.

"He would have gave you the shirt off his back. He was nothing but a good person, you understand what I'm saying like this is devastating to us," said Naomi Thurst, a freind of Beckles'.

Beckles was last seen early Saturday morning around 1 a.m. leaving an off campus party alone. Friends then reported him missing after he did not show up to a campus event that they say he normally would have attended.

That prompted Plattsburgh City police, New York State police and university police to investigate Beckles' disappearance. After retracing Beckles' steps, police say they were lead to the wooded area about a mile away from where Beckles was last seen. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11 a.m. Monday.

"It's been a heartfelt investigation, people have gone way above and beyond and has done a nice job with the family who are totally devastated by the loss of their son," said Chief Ariene Sabo from SUNY Plattsburgh police.

Authorities say an autopsy will be done tomorrow to determine the cause of death and say there is no evidence as of now to suspect foul play.

Students at SUNY Plattsburgh will be holding two candlelight vigils, one Monday night and another Tuesday night to mourn the loss of their fellow student and friend.
