The Vermont attorney general's officesays two propane companies violated consumer protection laws.
Bourne's Energy of Morrisville settleda claim that it overcharged customers who prepaid for propane, and then ordereda delivery online. The company is not paying a fine, but will refund customersand improve its practices.
And in another case, the AG's officesays Cota and Cota of Bellows Falls charged cash customers an upfront paymentand did not properly list fees on its fee disclosure form. The company settledand agreed to change its practices. But the AG says Cota and Cota thenretaliated against a customer who had complained by shutting off service. Thecompany is now paying a $5,000 fine to the state and $2,500 to two customers.
