WhistlePig wins approval for Shoreham distillery

Posted: Updated:

WhistlePig has won state approval tobuild a whiskey distillery in Shoreham.

WhistlePig currently imports whiskeyfrom Canada and bottles it in Vermont. But a new Act 250 permit allows it tomake and bottle whiskey onsite and storeup to 6,000 barrels.

Fermenting whiskey can produce blackmold so neighbors fought the plan, citing concerns about black mold migratingonto their organic berry farm.

The environmental commission tells usit's confident black mold will not colonize on the neighbor's crops as long asWhistlePig stays within its 6,000 barrel limit.
