Update: Police say dogs found on highway were hit by truck, not shot

WINDSOR, Vt. -

We have an update about two dogs that police originally said had been shot and dumped on the interstate.

Police say, the two pit bulls named Dunkin and Diesel were found on Saturday morning on Interstate 91 in Windsor with what they thought were gunshot wounds to the face.

But when Fish & Game officials took a look, they determined those wounds were actually puncture wounds from being hit by a tractor-trailer.

Their family lives near the interstate and says they let the dogs out Friday afternoon, but they never came home.
