New sidewalks approved for Saxtons River

Posted: Updated:

ROCKINGHAM, Vt. (AP) - After several years of research, officials have approved a plan to construct about 1,200 feet of sidewalk in Saxtons River, Vt., to the village school.

The selectboard in Rockingham approved the blueprints Tuesday.

The Eagle Times reports the sidewalk would be built up School Street toward Saxtons River Elementary School. There also would be a half-oval of walkway in front of the school.

The pathway and three proposed crosswalks are expected to reduce interactions between motorists and pedestrians.

This project is 100 percent funded by a Safe Routes to School federal grant originally applied for in 2009.
