WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - The veterans hospital in White River Junction, Vt., has added an iron gate at its main entrance to improve security.

The new gate follows a Veterans Administration "Vulnerability Assessment" conducted in 2010.

VA Hospital Director Deborah Amdur tells Vermont Public Radio she's confident the hospital is taking all the necessary steps to maintain safety while at the same time being a welcoming place to find help.

VA officials say there are also many other less visible security measures in place. A security fence will be expanded as resources become available.
