NEK road repair projects underway

Posted: Updated:
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. - Two major road repair projects in the Northeast Kingdom are getting underway.

An 8.5-mile stretch of Route 5 between St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville will be resurfaced. The work does not officially begin until the end of the month, but crews were out Monday doing prep work. Route 5 is a popular road between the two communities and delays are expected.

"Whether it is Facebook, our website, electronic newsletters, columns. Just really communicating better to people out there so that they know that yes, there is road improvements being done, there is construction out there, but they are not going to be waiting in line. They can still go around visiting the Northeast Kingdom and have a wonderful time there," said Darcie McCann from the
Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.

Prep work for paving on Interstate 91 between St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville, is also underway. That project is also expected to continue until mid-October.
