Burlington school board set to send budget back to voters

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Monday night the Burlington School Board was back at the table hashing out a budget to send to voters. The board passed a $67.6 million budget Monday evening and debated what cuts still needed to be made. This budget is larger than what was shot down on Town Meeting Day, but the board now must make up for a $2.5 million deficit a recent audit uncovered. While the board had to decide what programs head to the chopping block, members also voted to add a contingency fund.

"I added a $150,000 of a line called 'programs contingencies’ to perhaps cover any IRS fines or any penalties we might incur or any other over-run," said Miriam Stoll, the chair of the finance committee.

This approved budget will head to the full school board next week.
