St. Johnsbury school budget fails for 2nd time

Posted: Updated:
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. - Despite a last-minute push by parents and staff, voters in St. Johnsbury rejected the school budget for a second time.

We told you Wednesday about a social media campaign to get voters back to the polls. Only 14 percent of parents voted on the first budget. Thursday, more than 1,100 voters turned out. But the $15.8 million budget was defeated with a vote of 629-539.

The school board chair says she's extremely disappointed with the outcome and plans to meet with board to regroup.

This budget was $180,000 less than the original budget, but many voters felt their taxes are too high to support the proposal.
