VTC announces layoffs

Posted: Updated:
RANDOLPH, Vt. -

Vermont Technical College announced job cuts Friday to address a budget shortfall.

The school says it is laying off six employees effective June 30. Further savings will be found through retirements, not filling vacant positions and reducing some positions to part-time.

The personnel moves were announced by the school's new interim president Dan Smith. He took over last month when Philip Conroy was placed on paid leave until he retires in November.

Smith says expenses at VTC have increased faster than revenue from enrollment, which has declined over the last three years.

"This is frustrating and unfortunate, but necessary as part of a broader strategy to stabilize the college financially. These colleagues have provided loyal service to the college and we are grateful for it," Smith said.
