Poll shows Shumlin's popularity slipping

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin is brushing aside a poll that indicates his popularity is slipping.

It was conducted by the Castleton Polling Institute for the online news organization VTDigger.org. The poll shows the governor has a 49-percent approval rating for his job performance, with 40 percent saying they disapprove.

That's a big change from a Castleton poll done for WCAX in the spring of 2012. That poll showed Shumlin with a 65-percent approval rating; 23 percent disapproved. Click here for more from that poll in 2012.

"The only poll that I pay any attention to or care about is the one that is going to happen in November. So that is the one I both will read study and be excited about," said Shumlin, D-Vermont.

The VTDigger/Castleton poll also found the Legislature got a 44-percent approval rating. Click here for more from the VTDigger/Castleton poll.
