Vermont lawmakers hone to-do list at session's end

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Debates over consolidating school districts and increasing Vermont's minimum wage are among a long list of issues that still need to be resolved as state lawmakers near the end of the 2014 session.

House Speaker Shap Smith says he hopes and expects to finish the Legislature's work in the next two weeks.

Among the items pending is the general fund budget. The Senate on Monday is expected to take up a committee proposal that makes several changes to the $1.44 billion spending plan passed by the House a month ago. Among them is boosting funding for providers serving Medicaid beneficiaries.

On Tuesday, the House is slated to debate a bill that would consolidate school districts, reducing the number from 273 to 45 or 50.
