Hybrid race cars compete this week

Posted: Updated:
HANOVER, N.H. -  Local engineering students are putting their hybrid race cars to the test at Loudon Speedway this week.
It's all part of Dartmouth's 8th annual Formula Hybrid Competition, run by the Thayer School of Engineering.
24 teams from schools across the country will hit the track in high-performance hybrid and electric race cars  built by undergraduate and graduate students.
The goal is to create sustainable race cars of the future.
Major car companies sponsor the event. The designs can sometimes translate into new ways to build passenger cars.
 The competition runs through Thursday.
