Ash Tree Awareness Week highlights invasive species threat

Posted: Updated:
VERMONT -

Forestry agencies are trying to turn residents into first responders against the threat of a foreign invader.

There are more than 160 million of ash trees in the state, but the species is threatened by the emerald ash borer, a destructive, non-native insect that has been found in neighboring states, though not in Vermont yet.

This is Ash Tree Awareness Week.

There are events across the state, including nature walks, to check out the trees and learn how to spot the bug.
