Mooers school cleared for students to return

Posted: Updated:

It's safe for students to go back to school in Mooers, New York. That's the word from school officials at the Mooers Elementary School.

The school closed Friday after the town of Mooers notified the school district about possible asbestos in the air from a demolished funeral home just down the street. Parents, students and school employees were notified. The school was closed all weekend and Monday.

"Extensive interior air testing and exterior air testing, and what we found through the independent labs that did the testing for us was that there was no asbestos in the air inside the school or the air around the school," said A. Paul Scott, the Clinton Central interim superintendent.

He says the town of Mooers will cover up the debris pile this week.
