Vermont State Police and the Department of Corrections are cracking down on drug smuggling in prisons.

Kelly Collins, 45, and Erin Charbonneau, 37, are charged with bringing drugs into the women's prison in South Burlington. Collins was recently released from the facility and Charbonneau is a current inmate.

Authorities say they've investigated several attempted smuggling cases in recent months, specifically targeting a scheme where prescription buprenorphine strips are mailed to inmates in letters or taped to bookmarks. Police say the drugs are also being snuck in during parent-child visitations.

Officials remind families that helping an inmate get drugs is illegal and they will face criminal charges if caught.
