Vermont landfill to go solar

Posted: Updated:
COVENTRY, Vt. -

A project billed as Vermont's largest solar farm is coming to the Coventry landfill.

Under the plan, developers would install more than 9,000 solar panels on buffer land surrounding the landfill.

The 2.7 megawatt array is expected to produce enough electricity to power 261 homes for an entire year.

The landfill is already home to a gas-fired generator that runs on methane.

The joint venture was put together by Casella, which runs the landfill.
