CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The Obama administration says 40,262 New Hampshire residents have selected a health plan through the new federal insurance market, more than double its initial target for the state.

Figures released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services show that nationally, more than 8 million signed up for private insurance under the health care law between Oct. 1 and April 19.

In New Hampshire, almost as many people enrolled in the final month and a half as signed up in the first five months. By the end of February, enrollment was at 21,578.

For now, only one company is offering health plans in the state, which opted not to set up its own marketplace, but two more are expected to join next year.
