Organizers want Green Up Day volunteers counted

Posted: Updated:

Saturday is Green Up Day in Vermont. Since 1970, Vermonters have been volunteering one Saturday each spring to clean up litter and debris left over from the winter along roads and rivers.

Activities are organized town to town, but many Vermonters choose to green up on their own. Organizers hope those people will visit the Green Up Day website and click the BE COUNTED button.

"So those people who go out and green up on Green Up Day but never tell a town coordinator and so they never get counted, can now go to our website and press the button and be counted. And we really encourage people to do that so we can get a better idea of how many people are really taking part in Green Up Day," said Melinda Vieux of Green Up Vermont.

There was some concern earlier this spring that Green Up Day might be in jeopardy, but Green Mountain Power came through with a $20,000 donation to keep the nonprofit afloat.
