Police: Puppy in front seat leads to crash

Posted: Updated:
BRADFORD, Vt. - A Bradford man is recovering in the hospital following a distracted driving accident.

Police say 39 year-old Joseph Cheney was driving on Goshen Road in Bradford Sunday morning when a puppy on his lap caused him to veer off the road, sideswipe a telephone pole and hit a tree head-on. He was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Authorities say driver inattention was a contributing factor to the collision.   They say he was also not wearing his seatbelt.

UPDATE: Police tell Channel 3 the dog did not appear to be injured, and was taken home by family members.
