Math Night at Chamberlin School

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Students and their parents filled the Chamberlin School in South Burlington to crunch numbers together Monday night.

The special after-hours event was part of the school's annual "Math Night. Kids in grades K to 5 spent dinner time working with their families on math games and activities. The goal is to engage parents in the types of skills their kids are learning in the classroom.

Chamberlin's principal says while many parents do a great job working with their children on reading and writing skills, more work can be done when it comes to math.

"We really want to give parents ideas that they can do at home with their students, different ways to play dice games, to look at shapes at different ways," said Chamberlain Principal Holly Rouelle.

The event is part of a larger effort at the school to boost its standardized test scores in math.
