2 juveniles charged with arson in Highgate fire

Police say the fire that destroyed a Franklin County building was arson.

Flames engulfed the old Roy's Housing building on Route 78 in Highgate Center Monday night.

Firefighters say a person driving by spotted the fire and called it in. Multiple departments responded, but they were not able to save the building.

When the fire department arrived on scene the house was fully involved on the second floor, with an additional fire in the basement. The fire department was able to put out both fires. No one was hurt as a result of the fire. Damages are estimated in excess of $150,000.00.

Officials tell us the building used to house a mobile home dealership, but it has been vacant. It was for sale.

Investigators say two juveniles were found to be responsible for the fires. They are charged with arson and reckless endangerment.
