Change would allow treatment for partners of STD patients

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Partners of patients with a sexually transmitted disease could be treated without a doctor's visit under a proposed Vermont rule change.

It's called Expedited Partner Therapy and health officials say it could fight the spread of chlamydia and gonorrhea. There's been an increase in those STDs.

Under the proposal, a sexual partner would also get treatment as part of the prescription, but would be urged to see a doctor, too.
