Vt. company makes shopping for fashionable kids clothes fun

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, Vt. -

Two moms have teamed up to make shopping for children clothes, fun, fashionable and easy.

For fashion-forward moms finding children clothes as cool as your own can be a challenge, especially in Vermont.

That's why lifelong friends Julie Harvey and Marie-Michelle Gaudreau started an online store that makes shopping for children clothes a breeze and a lot of fun. It's called Minou children.

Minou is French for kitten.

"When you tell a kid they look like a petit minou it means he's just adorable and maybe a little bit naughty too," said Harvey.

From T-shirts to toys and dresses to denim, the e-tailer currently offers around 300 items from 30 different brands for kids age 0-6.

All of the photos for the website are taken in Vermont.

"We really tried to get emerging brands that are hard to find and are not everywhere," said Harvey.

The two Quebec City moms were friends before they could talk and once they moved to Vermont and started families of their own they realized there was a need.

"When Julie and I moved to Vermont we became online shopping experts," said Gaudreau.

With backgrounds in marketing and fashion it was a natural fit.

"It's hard to find, so we were like let's do it, let's just do it, let's start something," said Harvey.

MinouKids.com launched two months ago and business is off to a vibrant start, selling thousands of dollars in merchandise in just the first week.

The website not only focuses on cool products, but great customer service. It’s a lesson that Harvey learned from her husband, Eliot Orton, of the Vermont Country Store. Minou Kids offers fast shipping and easy returns.

"We keep all the clothes at the warehouse in North Clarendon at the Vermont Country Store warehouse," said Harvey.

"We built our website for our customer which we call ‘the extraordinary woman.’ She works, she has children, she holds the family together, she doesn't have a lot of time," said Gaudreau.

It's a one-stop online shop for inspired clothes and gifts for the kids that inspire you.
